Often overlooked by many American consumers, the four communes of Barbaresco have been incredible wines for generations. Quietly tolling in a hilly landscape that is nothing short of breathtaking, the growers here cultivate Nebbiolo that is both complex and elegant. Traditionally produced in much smaller quantities than their counterparts in Barolo, these are wines that represent some of the most exciting produced in Italy.

A young and dynamic winery fanatically committed to the creation of great Nebbiolo, Cascina Alberta is located at the southern edge of the DOCG and near the town of Treiso d’Alba. Acquired in 2010 by the Guermani brothers, the estate makes most of its southern exposition within the famous Giacone cru that is optimal for crafting richly styled Barbaresco. Carefully renovated through sustainable viticulture and with a respect for the local eco-system, the nine hectares of vineyards see limited human intervention. No herbicides or pesticides have been employed, and organic guidelines are employed at every turn. Certified organic from the 2019 vintage, the estate seeks to achieve a limited eco footprint that is targeted at 50% of the limits allowed.
