Brilliant, unique, and yet largely unknown to American consumers, the wines of Campania remain some of Italy’s best kept secrets. For centuries, growers here have quietly produced structured, expressive wines that exude the terroir of their vineyards and the unchanging bucolic rusticity of the region. They are wines loaded with personality and strong character, wines that over-deliver to the consumer’s palate.
Nowhere is the above more true than at Fontanavecchia, an ancient property located near the seaside town of Benevento in the heart of Campania’s Sannio district. Boasting breathtaking hillside views of the sea and surrounding countryside, the vineyards were laid out some 150 years ago and are exclusively planted to the traditional grape varieties of the area. Owned for decades by the Rillo family, the property is committed to promoting these native varieties, with particular emphasis on the development of premium quality Falanghina and Aglianico. The results of this emphasis have been nothing short of spectacular, and Fontanavecchia has established itself as one of Campania’s foremost producers of both varieties.
Prized by wine critics the world over, these are unique wines not to be missed!
