TAVOLO VIGNETO
Badia Di Morrona
An ancient monastery with an equally ancient winemaking tradition, Badia di Morrona is one of Northern Tuscany’s most important wineries.

Overview
Located halfway between Pisa and Volterra in the heart of the Colli Pisane growing commune, the property was originally established by the Benedictines in 1089 for use as a monastery. Lauded for its efforts with both traditional Tuscan grape varietals and “trendier” international vinifera, Badia di Morrona has developed a strong reputation for its unwavering commitment to quality. The darling of wine consumers and critics alike, the wines have been reviewed extensively and scored highly.
Seized in 1482 by the Archbishop of Volterra and transformed into a summer residence, the estate was enlarged and the small vineyard laid out by the monks during the early 1100s was significantly expanded. Later confiscated by the Italian Government, the property was ultimately purchased by the Gaslini-Alberti family in 1939—under their direction, the vineyards have been further expanded to encompass their current 90 hectares, and substantial investment and improvements have been made to the winery and cellar.
