Ca Bianche

One of the region's youngest and most dynamic producers, Davide Bana inherited a passion for the land and the vine from his grandfather. At the young age of 27, he made the decision to quit his career in Switzerland and return to the land. Founding Ca Bianche with a single hectare of vineyards in his native village of Baruffini, he worked hard to achieve his vision of a wine that represented the best of Valtellina.

Overview

Famous for its amazing scenery and unique terroir, the Valtellina DOCG is home to the most expansive, mountainous viticultural area of Italy. Located high in the Alps near the border with Switzerland, this picturesque district of Lombardia has found international acclaim for its "Nebbiolo of the Rocks" (aka Chiavennasca), a wine that evokes the Alpine climate and distinguishes itself from its Langhe cousins that are more readily available in the market. Here, Nebbiolo is traditional yet contemporary, elegant yet vibrant.

Today, the estate boasts two hectares of vineyards and three wines, each made in the more historic style of Valtellina - two aged wines bearing the Superiore and Superiore Riserva designations along with a fruit driven, appassimento version known as Sforzato. Matured in a combination of large and small French oak barrels, they are some of the most expressive and complex wines found in the entire DOCG zone.
