Overview

Considered one of the most important winemaking sites in the province of Siena, Montalcino enjoys a rich winemaking history. First settled by the Etruscans, the area has been known for superior wine production since Roman times. Modern notoriety came in 1865 through the efforts of Clemente Santi and his award-winning work with Sangiovese Grosso. Now home to some 220 wineries, the area is the seat of Tuscany’s most collected red wine —Brunello di Montalcino.

Boasting a spectacular view of the Tuscan hills and overlooking the historic abbey of Sant’Antimo, the Palazzetta estate is one of Montalcino’s hidden gems. Located some 1,200 feet above sea level on the Southeastern side of the town, the winery and farm were founded in 1988 by Flavio and Carla Fanti with just one hectare of Sangiovese Grosso. Today joined by their children, Luca and Tea, the estate encompasses some 20 hectares of prime vineyards and some 2,500 Olive trees. Everything is manipulated by hand, with all the farming undertaken in an ecologically sustainable manner. Recipient of the “Eco Friendly Cellar” Diploma in 2016, the goal is to create wines that are both extravagantly structured and healthy for consumers.
