Overview

Located north of Gattinara, Boca is Piemonte's highest elevation winegrowing region. The hillside vineyards are shaped in a natural amphitheater at some 500 meters above sea level, all atop ancient volcanic soils that date back to the formation of the Alps. A DOC since 1969, the wines produced here are predominantly Nebbiolo (70-90% Spanna), always blended with Vespolina or Uva Rara. The minimum ageing allowed prior to release is 22 months, with at least 18 of those months being in barrel.

Starting with 3 hectares of vines originally planted by his great grandfather, Renzo has attempted to preserve the area's rich viticultural heritage, gradually expanding his vineyard holdings by saving several local vineyards from abandonment and neglect. Today, the winery also boasts historic vineyards in the neighboring DOCs of Sizzano and Fara. These are vinified separately from the plots in Boca to create traditional forms of the local wines.
