TAVOLO VIGNETO

Valle D'Aosta
Sharing a border with France and Switzerland, Valle d’Aosta is nothing short of breathtaking. Nestled in the heart of the Alps, this tiny and picture-perfect region of Italy boasts quaint villages and jaw-dropping scenery. Though the capital city of Aosta was founded by the Romans, the feel in the region is decidedly Alpine — an intoxicating blend of Swiss, French, and Italian cultural influences that combine to create an atmosphere that is different from all other parts of Italy. This marriage of cultural influences is part of the reason the zone has been designated as an Autonomous Province of Italy since 1947.

Winemaking in Valle d’Aosta is confined to the region’s central valley. Carved over millennia by the Dora Baltea River, the valley is divided into 4 primary sub-zones that run from the East / Southeast to West /Northwest. The hill of Donnas, straddling the historic villages of Bard and Pont Saint Martin, is at the Eastern boundary with Piemonte. The hills Chambave and Torrette can be found in the mid-valley, Torrette very close to Aosta itself. The tiny production zone of Morgex et de La Salle is at the Northwestern edge, not far from Monte Bianco and the historic villages of Chamonix and Courmayeur.
