Overview

The youngest of Tuscany's wine zones, the origins of the Maremma district can be dated to the arrival of the Grand Dukes of Lorraine in 1765. Descendants of and successors to the Medici, they began development of the countryside, draining swamps that had once dominated the landscape and replacing them with rich, fertile pastures and farmland. Vineyard development began in earnest in the area after 1828, when Duke Leopold II took an interest in the district and handed control to several leading noble families.

Established 25 years ago, the property has grown to encompass 40 hectares of vines near the famous village of Montalcino. The estate has embraced the "green" movement with its organic farming methods, and the 3 wines produced are a blend of traditional and modern, with Sangiovese supplying the backbone for partnerships with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. Lush and complex in flavor, they are highly acclaimed by such noted wine critics as Gambero Rosso and The Wine Spectator.
